What Is Ayurveda?

Ayurveda is one of the world’s oldest systems of medicine, practised in India for thousands of years. Unlike a one-size-fits-all approach, Ayurveda looks at each person’s unique constitution — their Prakriti — and designs treatment around it. At Ayujivan, this means your consultation, diet advice, and therapy plan are built around your body type, not a standard checklist.

Ayurvedic treatment focuses on identifying and addressing the root cause of a health concern rather than only managing symptoms. It combines herbal formulations, dietary correction, lifestyle changes, and therapeutic procedures like Panchakarma to restore balance.

The Three Doshas — Vata, Pitta, Kapha

Ayurveda holds that every person’s body and mind are governed by three fundamental energies, called doshas — Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. These doshas are formed from the five elements of nature: earth, water, fire, air, and space.

  • Vata (air + space) — governs movement: breathing, circulation, nerve function. When balanced, it supports creativity and flexibility. When aggravated, it can cause anxiety, dryness, and joint discomfort.
  • Pitta (fire + water) — governs transformation: digestion, metabolism, body temperature. When balanced, it supports focus and digestion. When aggravated, it can cause acidity, inflammation, and irritability.
  • Kapha (earth + water) — governs structure and stability: immunity, lubrication of joints, tissue growth. When balanced, it supports strength and calm. When aggravated, it can cause weight gain, congestion, and lethargy.

Every individual has a unique combination of these three doshas. Health, according to Ayurveda, is the state where your doshas remain in their natural balance. Illness begins when that balance is disturbed — by diet, stress, season, or lifestyle. Ayujivan’s consultations begin with identifying your dosha constitution so treatment is built specifically for you.
