Overview
Basti Chikitsa, medicated enema therapy, is considered the most important of the Panchkarma procedures for balancing Vata dosha, which governs the nervous and musculoskeletal systems.
How It Works
Herbal oil or decoction preparations are administered rectally, acting directly on the colon — considered the primary seat of Vata — to help pacify systemic Vata imbalance.

The Process
Purva Karma (Preparation)
Assessment of the patient's condition to determine the appropriate type and course of Basti (oil-based or decoction-based).
Pradhana Karma (Main Procedure)
A prepared herbal oil or decoction is administered rectally, with the patient monitored during retention and release.
Paschat Karma (Aftercare)
Patients are advised on diet and rest for the remainder of the day following each administration.
