Vamana Jaipur (वमन)

Overview

Vamana is one of the five classical Panchkarma procedures, involving medically induced, controlled emesis to clear excess Kapha dosha from the upper body.

How It Works

A course of internal oleation and herbal preparation increases the fluidity of accumulated Kapha, which is then expelled through supervised emesis using specific herbal formulations under close medical monitoring.

Indications

This may be recommended for:

  • Chronic respiratory or Kapha-related conditions
  • Certain skin conditions
  • As part of a seasonal detoxification plan (typically spring)

The Process

Purva Karma (Preparation)

A preparatory course of internal oil (Snehana) and steam (Swedana) therapy over several days to mobilize Kapha toward the stomach.

Pradhana Karma (Main Procedure)

Under direct medical supervision, a herbal emetic preparation is administered to induce controlled vomiting, expelling accumulated Kapha.

Paschat Karma (Aftercare)

A structured, gradually escalating diet (Samsarjana Krama) is followed over several days to help the digestive system recover safely.
